About our class:

Many children do well in a one-on-one setting, but have difficulty when placed in a group. This class is designed to help kids with developmental delays (or other special needs) prepare themselves to enter a school setting. Neurotypical children are brought into the class whenever possible, in order to help facilitate typical peer play and conversation opportunities.

A quality social skills class can help prepare children for a private or public school setting. If you child has been unsuccessful in school, you may find that a few months in a classroom that focuses on communication and behavior will help.

Our focus will be on:

  • Following group instruction
  • Handling multiple transitions
  • Completing independent tasks
  • Eating lunch or snacks in a school-appropriate manner
  • Reducing behaviors that interfere with the group environment
  • Early social skills development - working on behaviors such as: taking turns, raising a hand and waiting to be called on, following multi-step directions, and having positive interactions with peers

After graduating from our Little Social Skills Class, a child may be able to successfully attend a PPCD, special education, or mainstream class, depending on the child’s academic level. With the child’s increased ability to follow group direction and complete tasks independently, many of the obstacles that get in the way of a group learning environment should be greatly reduced.

How to begin?

If you are interested in having your child join our Little Social Skills Class, or would like more information, please call our main office at 713-462-6060. There is a mandatory initial consultation meeting that is required prior to signing up for the program. This meeting is free of charge, and can be set up when you call our office. We look forward to hearing from you!

*Tangible Difference is also looking for neurotypical peers to join our Social Skills class! Typical children who qualify to join our Social Skills class:
