Older Social Skills Program: Ages 7-12
Requirements:
- Ages 7-12
- Functioning at or near academic grade level
- Must attend an initial consultation meeting to determine eligibility for the class
Class Hours:
- Saturdays 10-2 PM
About our class:
In our children who are a little older we often see difficulty with more complex problem-solving, emotional regulation, conversation skills, understanding social boundaries, and anger management. Though academically these children may succeed, they may need a little extra help in handling varied social situations. Having fucntional social skills can greatly improve the quality of life of these children both in and outside the school setting.
Our focus will be on:
- staying on task without frequent prompting
- appropriate communication skills - staying on topic, asking for assistance, initiating and maintaining conversation
- understanding social boundaries
- anger management
- coping with unfamiliar situations
- being a good friend and a good sport
- creating and maintaining positive social relationships
After completing our Older Social Skills Class, a child may exhibit improved behavior at school, with peers, and at home. Being able to express frustration and anger appropriately, as well as problem-solve, communicate, and develop meaningful social relationships, can improve home life for both the child and other family members.
