Occupational Therapy services
What Is Occupational Therapy?
In its simplest terms, occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants help people participate in the things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of everyday activities (occupations). Common occupational therapy (OT) interventions include helping children with autism or other disabilities to participate fully in school and social situations, and helping people recovering from injury to regain skills.
Your child may need help performing normal work, school, or life functions. Our occupational therapists use a balanced program of therapeutic exercise, manual techniques, functional training, and education in order to help your child reach his or her goals in these areas. Skills that can be improved on include:
- Self-help skills, including dressing and feeding oneself
- General mobility issues, difficulty with motor coordination or body awareness
- Safety procedures
- Improving manipulative play skills (dexterity, puzzles, stacking objects, lacing)
- Improving physical play skills (eye-hand coordination, jumping, running, skipping, climbing)
- Fine motor skills, including handwriting and pencil grip
among many others!
TDLC’s Occupational Therapy Program
Tangible Difference Learning Center’s OT program provides the unique opportunity for collaboration among groups of therapists. We provide a variety of different programs all in one place, including applied behavior analysis (ABA), social skills classes, speech therapy, and professional counseling services. Skills that are being taught during the OT sessions can also be carried over into our speech, social skills, or ABA sessions, and vice versa. We pride ourselves on providing all-in-one, comprehensive, and quality treatment for our clients!
Our occupational therapy program prides itself in its ability to address behaviors and other issues that may interfere with the learning process, thus helping maximize therapy benefits for each child. Specifically, our in-depth experience with children with autism puts us in a unique position; we understand how to best provide occupational therapy services to individuals with autism and overcome the particular difficulties they may encounter.

What do TDLC’s Occupational Therapy services include?
When you begin OT services at our Center, we will:
- Evaluate your child to determine if he or she has accomplished tasks appropriate to the child’s age, such as dressing and play skills, and determine the child’s goals
- Provide customized intervention to improve the child’s ability to perform daily activities and reach the goals
- Intervention may include developmental activities and play activities
- Facilitate play activities that aid a child in interacting and communicating with others
- Conduct ongoing outcomes evaluations to ensure that the goals are being met and/or make changes to the intervention plan
How To Begin?
Give us a call or send us an email to set up an appointment for an OT evaluation. Our OTs will conduct an evaluation to determine the need, nature, and/or severity of your child’s concerns. Upon completion, the evaluation will be explained to the parent, including reccomendations for therapy and at-home practice.
Occupational therapy sessions are typically 50 minutes. Each session is followed by communication with the parent or caregiver, discussing progress and any home-programs recommended to facilitate in the carry-over of new skills.
